A yacht should not be your primary residence - a common misconception. How sailors live on board legally

Holger Peterson has given up his house and farm and moved to his "Paloma". He talks about his experiences, the difficulties and the new, unrivalled feel-good atmosphere.

Although his living space has been reduced from 160 to 15 square metres, there are still a lot of advantages to the move, for example
considerable financial savings
no time-consuming travelling to and from work
flexible work organisation and trip planning
living in the countryside.

Nevertheless, this form of living naturally comes with restrictions, such as the limited stowage and living space on an 11-metre yacht. In YACHT (the magazine goes on sale on 4 August), the relocatee describes how this should be weighed up, how the official approval came about and whether it was all worth it in the end.

YACHT legal expert Dr Heyko Wychodil explains the somewhat confusing legal situation. Some federal states allow you to move to a ship without any problems, others under certain conditions and some not at all. You can also find out all the details in the new issue of YACHT.
